There were no stars, only darkness and the smell of death. The shadows danced in between the trees and in and out of the bushes. A young kit was walking along, next to a larger, older warrior. He was not more than a moon, was large for his age. His eyes were a brilliant olive, the only brightly shining things that were visible.
The older tom signaled to the kit with his tail. "Are you okay?" He made no move to turn around, but slowed his pace. "I know this might be a long walk for a kit of your age."
The kit, though tired, refused to act as such. "I'm fine, Lightningstripe." He lied. "Where are we again?"
"Wolfkit, stupidly pushing yourself past your limits will get you killed." The black tom scolded. "And we are GOING to a very special place for training."
"Right, father..." The young kit sighed. He knew better than to say anything else. He was just happy to see his father again! Lightningstripe had been CreekClan's deputy, and was to become Lightningstar when he was brutally murdered by his own father, the traitor Beechfur. That's what his mother, Snowleap had said. It had to be true because his father agreed. Wolfkit rubbed against Lightningstripe's hind leg. "I'm so glad you want to train me, Daddy."
Lightningstripe smiled, his red eyes shining. "I'm not going to train you myself, but I'll help. One of my very good friends and allies is going to train you. He's a true warrior. He was even a clan leader!"
Wolfkit's eyes widened. "Wow! I'm going to be one strong warrior!" He lashed out like he was attacking a rival warrior. "Just like you!"
His father laughed. "We'll see." He turned into a patch of bushes, and they entered a clearing. A white tom with gray patches was standing in the middle of the grass, waiting patiently. "Ah! There he is! Come over here with me, Wolfkit."
The two cats walked to the center or the clearing, stoping next to the stranger. Lightningstripe nudged Wolfkit forward. "This is my son,Wolfkit. He is my largest, strongest, and fastest. I think you'll be pleased with his performance."
Wolfkit gulped, and tried his best to stand tall. If this was the wise, strong leader, he was going to impress him the best he could. "I am Wolfkit. I am going to be the best warrior in all the clans!"
The white tom smiled. "I'm glad to see you are enthusiastic like this, Wolfkit. I can train you into a fine warrior with that attitude." He turns to Lightningstripe. "A wise decision. He will be all powerful."
Wolfkit grinned. This cat said he was powerful! "So, who will I fight first, Master?"
"Not so fast, young one. You have much to be taught, and we will not be fighting right away." He unsheathed his claws. "Oh, and my name is Cloudstar. Call me Cloudstar."
