"I am not a traitor!" Sandfur's olive eyes glowed with a silent determination. However, even though no one else could see it, Shoneko saw the slightest hint of doubt. "I would never betray DesertClan!"
Desertstar turned to the white she-cat. "Though I strongly belive you would never lie, Shoneko, you do have to have a lot of nerve, to question on of my strongest warriors."
Ronguteru's eyes blazed. "Shoneko would never question the authority nor the position of an innocent soul! Sandfur is not being accused of something he's never done."
With a flick of his ears, Sandfur turned towards Desertstar and Cactusflight. "You've gotta belive me! I chased that flea-bitten warrior right off of our territory! I-"
Desertstar raised a paw for a pause. "So, are you saying you WERE over on the edge of the territory with a CreekClan warrior?"
There was a collective gasp, and Sandfur's hackles raised. "Yes, but I chased him off of our lands! I caught him trying to steal prey!"
Shoneko glances at Desertstar. "If I may?" The leader nods, and the she-cat glares at Sandfur. "For one, that warrior wasn't a male! It was a female! She hadn't stolen prey, you were walking around giving her googly eyes!"
Desertstar growls at his nephew. "Is this true?!"
"Not at all!" Sandfur mews, though his mew is beginning to waver. "I would not moon over a CreekClan warrior. I can even name the cat that I chased away!"
"And what would his name be?" Cactusflight questioned.
"Shadeclaw." Sandfur responds, a look of deviousness on his face.
Another collective gasp. Desertstar winces. "Shadeclaw? Mate of the granddaughter of the late Creekstar?"
Sandfur nods. "He was stealing prey!"
Shoneko once again raises her voice. "Desertstar, if I may ask, what is the name of the fallen leader's granddaughter?" The white she-cat looks at Sandfur, who's eyes were suddenly wide.
Desertstar blinks. "Of course. Creekstar's granddaughter is named Mosspelt."
"Mosspelt..." Shoneko smiles, remembering the gray tabby she had seen with Sandfur in the previous hours. "And you say she has a mate in Shadeclaw?"
The brown and black leader nods.
Shoneko whips around towards Sandfur, eyes gleaming silver. "Is Mosspelt not the warrior you were with in the night? That gray tabby she-cat with the blue eyes?"
Now the clearing erupts with meows of shock. Desertstar looks at Sandfur with a face masked in shame.
Shoneko carries on. "But now, to find that she has taken a mate in CreekClan to cover up your misdeeds together..." She pauses for effect. "I, being a she-cat, am able to detect the signs of expectancy. Sandfur..." The brown warrior glares at her with a gaze of defeat. "Mosspelt is expecting kits. Not just any kits, no... YOUR kits, Sandfur! You have betrayed DesertClan and broken the warrior code!"
The clan is in chaos, yowling and hissing at the defeated warrior. Desertstar shifts his gaze from Shoneko to Sandfur. "Sandfur? Do you have anything to say in your defense?"
Sandfur looks up with a smile. "Yes... Mosspelt says I am going to make a great father..."
The clan now closes in on him, waiting for Desertstar to give orders. "CATS OF DESERTCLAN! SANDFUR HAS BETRAYED US! HE DESERVES TO BE PUNISHED! HE WILL BE KEPT IN THE PRISON DENS ON THE FARTHEST SIDE OF THE CAMP, ALWAYS TO BE GUARDED BY TWO WARRIORS! HE WILL EAT ONE MEAL A DAY, AND HAVE ONE THING OF WATER BROUGHT TO HIM! HE IS NOT TO LEAVE THIS CAMP!" The clan thunders with yowls of approval. The meeting disperses, leaving a few senior warriors, Cactusflight, Ronguteru, Shoneko, and Desertstar to guide the prisoner to his den.
Shoneko steps foward. "I will take the first watch, if you'd let me, sir."
Desertstar nods his head solemnly. "Of course, you and your sister have the rights of a full warrior in here. Thank you for speaking up."
A dark brown tom with one white paw steps forward. "Desertstar, I'll take the first watch as well..."
The leader only nods, for he is quietly whispering to his deputy.
Shoneko and the tom walk over to the cave's enterance and stand as Sandfur is put in his den and sealed behind thorn bushes. Shoneko growls. "Traitor. You belong in there!" She turns to her partner, who's icy blue eyes are admiring her.
"I'm sorry to stare..." The tom says after realizing she was weirded out by his behavior. "My name is Brushwhisker."
"Nice to meet you, Brushwhisker..." Shoneko says, still uncomfortable next to him.
"I suppose we should find something to talk about..." Brushwhisker mews. "Um... Have you always had that bow?"
Shoneko yanks her bow away from the tom's curious paw. "Don't touch it. Unless, of course, you want ears like the cats of CreekClan."
Brushwhisker flinches. "I-I'm sorry! I didn't know you don't like other people touching it... I won't try again..."
Now the two sit in silence, waiting for the other to say something.
The tom breaks the silence once more. "Um... I know you don't know me at all... But I wanted you to know that I think you are very beautiful, Shoneko. And smart. And brave. I wouldn't have been able to stand up like that, especially not against a strong warrior like Sandfur..."
